When I plug the headphones in there are sounds, sometimes a low-level sound like a tea kettle whistling, and sometimes a louder screeching sound. The other problem is that the front headphone jack doesn't work. The rear one works, but this is less than convenient. :) Windows and ubuntu linux do not have either problem with the same hardware. Try sysctl hw.snd.default_unit=1 You have 2 separate outputs, almost certainly one is the rear and one is the front. The noise you hear might be fixable using mixer to mute any other sources but PCM. -- Daniel O'Connor software and network engineer for Genesis Software - http://www.gsoft.com.au "The nice thing about standards is that there are so many of them to choose from." -- Andrew Tanenbaum GPG Fingerprint - 5596 B766 97C0 0E94 4347 295E E593 DC20 7B3F CE8CReceived on Thu Nov 04 2010 - 18:55:23 UTC
