tcsh in malloc(): error: recursive call

I'm currently in the middle of a portupgrade. It was building Openoffice 
1.1, however it got a recursive call in malloc in tcsh. My system is:

FreeBSD cwsys 5.2-CURRENT FreeBSD 5.2-CURRENT #0: Tue Dec  9 09:18:08 PST 
2003     root_at_cwsys:/export/obj/opt/src/cvs-current/src/sys/KOMQUATS  i386

It was CVSupped at approximately 04:30 on Dec 8. The ports tree was 
cvsupped at the same time.

I'm posting here on -current because I believe this is a base O/S issue, 
not a ports issue. I've found some discussion about this that seems to 
indicate that this might be SSE related. My CPU is as follows:

Some of the discussion I've seen points to the possibility that static 
linking may fix this. Should I try linking a static tcsh (or use the one in 
/rescue) to test this theory out? Or, is there some other fix or 
circumvention to this problem?
