No, ad0 does not appear in dmesg. ad0 is a Winchester and ad2 is a Seagate drive (I don't know if that makes a difference, but there it is). ad2 is the 8Gig drive and ad0 is the 30 gig drive. Just FYI: There *is* a third device, ad3 (also a Seagate), which is identified by both -STABLE and -CURRENT. But I don't use the drive and have just been too lazy to remove it. When I boot on ad0 (4.10-STABLE), I get the following messages relative to disk devices in /var/log/messages: Jul 22 08:05:02 joeandlane /kernel: ad0: DMA limited to UDMA33, non-ATA66 cable or device Jul 22 08:05:02 joeandlane /kernel: ad0: 38166MB <WDC WD400EB-00CPF0> [77545/16/63] at ata0-master UDMA33 Jul 22 08:05:02 joeandlane /kernel: ad2: 8207MB <ST38641A> [16676/16/63] at ata1-master UDMA33 Jul 22 08:05:02 joeandlane /kernel: ad3: 4341MB <ST34520A> [9408/15/63] at ata1-slave UDMA33 here is /var/log/messages from the initial boot on -CURRENT Jul 19 22:10:54 syslogd: kernel boot file is /boot/kernel/kernel Jul 19 22:10:54 kernel: Copyright (c) 1992-2004 The FreeBSD Project.
