I guess my problem has something to do with pam configuration but I know little of pam. I could log in as a normal user then "su" successfully. So I went into /etc/pam.d and removed all of the services except "other", and after a reboot I could log in as root. The generic path for recovery is as follows: - Boot up in single user mode. - Manually configure network interface(s). - cvsup again. - "make world" in /usr/src, still in single-user mode. - mergemaster -i - boot into multi-user mode. Give that a whirl... Andy | Andre Guibert de Bruet | Enterprise Software Consultant > | Silicon Landmark, LLC. | http://siliconlandmark.com/ >Received on Wed Apr 20 2005 - 09:52:41 UTC
