OK, I'm a little late, but nevertheless: It works for me. I'm running 
-CURRENT on a UP machine:
CPU: Pentium II/Pentium II Xeon/Celeron (502.42-MHz 686-class CPU)
   Origin = "GenuineIntel"  Id = 0x665  Stepping = 5
 
Features=0x183f9ff<FPU,VME,DE,PSE,TSC,MSR,PAE,MCE,CX8,SEP,MTRR,PGE,MCA,CMOV,PAT,PSE36,MMX,FXSR>

So far I havn't done any "stress testing", but if I encounter any 
problems I will report them ;-)
