gib/em driver problems?

I went out and purchased a PCIe ethernet card - it uses the em driver. The system 
boots and it is em0.

It works fine in 100Mb mode, but in gigabit mode, it does not pass any traffic although ifconfig reports
the card as active and that it has negotiated 1000BTX full duplex.

I have tried plugging both the igb and em cards into 2 different switches with the same result.
